Three Instagram Content Trends For Your 2019 Strategy

With over 1 billion monthly active users on Instagram, 2019 is an exciting year for content creators and brands. While Instagram continues to grow, the app is constantly evolving to meet the ever-changing needs of its users. As a result, users on the platform have greater expectations. And as an influencer, its important to stay on top of these evolving trends in order to rise above the noise and deliver great content.

Here are 3 important trends (and a few of my favorite accounts) for your 2019 Instagram content strategies:

Transformational Content

People are not only turning to Instagram influencers for a pretty picture any longer. They’re also using it as a platform for learning, inspiration, and motivation. No matter what niche you’re in (Fashion, Food, Interior Design, etc), think about how your content can empower and serve your audience in a way that will actually transform the way they think about your niche.

Here are two examples of accounts that serve their audience with transformational content:

Lee Hersh from @FitFoodieFinds: Lee not only shares the most delicious-looking recipes and fun workouts, but she also incorporates body positivity and “food freedom” into her feed on a regular basis. She shares a powerful message beyond her recipes, which inspires her followers to think differently about how food and fitness fit into their lives.

James Wedmore from @JamesWedmore: James inspires people to uncover their “inner-driven digital CEOs” and consistently shows up with the type of motivational messages that will move you. He encourages his followers to think differently and drive positive change in their lives. His podcast, Mind Your Business, is also binge-worthy.

Community Driven Content

The unique advantage of Instagram is that you have the ability to grow a community of like-minded individuals who all share the same interests. This allows you to use your platform to create connections. Think of different ways you can develop a community that connects and supports one another.

Check out two of my favorite “community-first” brands on Instagram:

Katrina Scott & Karena Dawn from @Toneitup – These two incredible women took their fitness passion to the next level with their brand, Tone It Up. They really set themselves apart in the fitness industry by building a community that empowers women to connect over fitness and healthy eating. Some creative ways they do this is through their “Women Crush Wednesday” features (#WCW), Tone it Up meetups, and fitness challenges . There are thousands of women across the world who have connected through this community-focused brand. Talk about inspiring!

Aggie Lal from @Travelinhershoes – It’s hard not to fall in love with Aggie’s beautiful feed filled with her travel adventures. In addition to her gorgeous feed, she has grown a loyal community of followers (she likes to call them “Aggie’s Tribe” on her stories) by connecting with people around the world through her surprise meet-ups and shared passion for travel. Certainly an account to follow!

Video

With more than 400M active users on stories every day, there’s no denying that video is a great opportunity to set yourself apart. Between IGTV and Stories, you can really showcase your personality and purpose beyond your feed. IGTV can now be placed on your profile, so people can easily check out your channel right from your bio. Instagram is also now promoting IGTV previews in your feed, so do not underestimate the power of IGTV as it will continue to grow.

Here are two examples of Influencers who CRUSH stories. Check them out for inspiration:

Tyler Mccall from @TylerJMccall– You can always count on Tyler to show up on Instagram with a good video. Not to mention, he makes it look effortless. He does it so well that you feel like you know him. Think about how you can use video to make your audience feel like they they’re sitting in the room with you.

Erika Altes from @WhiskeyandLace – Everyone can learn some tricks from Erika on how to use Instagram stories in an organic way. She’s casual, hilarious, and conversational. Another example of someone who makes you feel like you’re catching up with her over a glass of wine.
