So you’re interested in starting a blog as a side hustle, but you’re wondering: How do people make money from blogging? There are a lot of ways people are making money from blogging these days and there are many bloggers who even earn a full time annual income from it.
So if you’re trying to think of ways to monetize your blog, you’ve come to the right place. In this post, I’m breaking down the most common ways to earn money from blogging.
This isn’t exactly making money, but typically when you’re just starting out and seeing a small amount of success, you may get contacted by brands who ask you to post a review in exchange for free product. Before accepting this, I would make sure that the value of the product is worth the exchange of your time.
Affiliate marketing is when you make a small commission (either a flat fee or %) whenever someone buys the product that you’re promoting. Typically brands will provide you with a special link or code so they can track purchases that are made from your recommendations. It’s a great way to earn some extra cash simply by recommending the products you love.
3. Sponsored Social Media Posts
A sponsored social media post is when a brand pays you to create content and post it on your profile recommending it to your followers. Sponsored posts are a great way to earn money while putting your content creation skills to the test. Just make sure that at least 85% of your content isn’t sponsored, otherwise people will start to feel like your feed is a giant ad.
There are many popular content creators who make and sell courses for a living. For example, Amy Porterfield is a successful entrepreneur who makes most of her living with online courses by teaching others how to make online courses and build their e-mail lists. If you have a skill that is teachable, then creating a course is a great way to earn some extra income!
5. Books / eBooks
If one of your skills is writing, then a book or ebook would be a great way to earn money. Not sure what to write about? It can be anything from howt- guides to cookbooks with your most popular recipes. For example, Maegan Brown from @thebakermama on Instagram has turned her blog into a book called Beautiful Boards.
6. Make Your Own Product
Many influencers are leveraging their built-in following by creating products. Their advantage is that they already have followers who trust them and will give them feedback on what they like and dislike. An example of an influencer who has created her own product is Arielle Noa Charnas who started her own fashion brand called Something Navy.
If you’re trying to think of ways to monetize your blog or influence, these 6 options are all great ways to start earning some extra cash!
